The same goes for the practiced of diversity and inclusion inour workplaces. Surely, racisk is not dead. But in a time that has seen the electiobn of thefirst African-American president and all the symbolisj that holds, as well as the explosion of socia networking that further extends the meaningy and definition of cultural identity, it seems that there shouldn’f be a need to recognize companies that have adopted a spirift of inclusion. Opting out isn’t a smart way to keep a healthyubottom line.
Honoree Ivette Mayo, who’s business is designed to help trai companies about the value and magnitudse of incorporating themes of cultural understanding and differenc intostandard training, spoke about her own businesas development and the “warming of one CEO to whom she was pitchingg her services. At initial meetings, the company listenesd well but wasn’t able to make specific commitments, whichy was fine by Mayo, citing the need for decisioj makers to digest and applhthe concepts. But sure a few weeks later, the CEO brought her back in, suggesting that he realized that the trainin g and awareness she talks about is vitalto success.
As Mayo told the TBBJ , she helpse her clients see thatthey don’f just do business in the community but “becomd part of that community.” A scan of honorees in our Diversitgy & Inclusion awards shows firms spotlighted have clearluy gone above and beyond in their commitment to, as law firm has “institutionalize and formalize a commitment to diversity.” Their best practicea can be utilized by all TBBJ readers as a road map to a positiom of strength within their workplaces a place where cultural, gender and physical differences can be seen an Our respect and congratulations goes to our five honoreeas and to our five finalists: , , , and .
